How we decided the 48-hr time window before payment is released to our photographers?
-
I first reached out to our photographer community to understand their payment policies - most of them require full or majority of the payment prior to the photo shoot, so we have to take that into consideration
-
Next I looked up payout policies from a few other marketplaces. On airbnb, payment is released 24 hours after guest check-in. On elance, there is a trigger for customer to indicate the service has been performed before a payment is released to the freelancers
-
Our team brainstormed and decided a few must-haves: 1. We are obligated to provide customer protection if anything goes wrong during the shoot; 2. We need to enable quick payout to photographers
-
We decided to move forward to 48-hr time window, allowing customers sufficient time to report issues and a fast payout. The feature was implemented and we did not receive complains. If we were to observe a spike in customers complaints, we would have considered testing an extension of the time window or building the customer trigger for payment release.
